Six Months Old!

Corin turned six months old this past Friday. We celebrated at home by giving him some pears. It was the first time he has had any fruit (other than apple juice), since the doc said that we should start him out on vegetables so he doesn't get used to the sweetness of fruits and shun the veggies. He enjoyed his pears and I'm pretty sure he is looking forward to Halloween when he gets to have the rest of them.
He had his six month check-up at the doctor's office yesterday. He officially weighed in at 18 pounds, 12 ounces, and is 2 feet, 3 1/2 inches tall. He is growing normally and is on track developmentally.
Yesterday was a beautiful day and we were able to get in one more family bike ride to the grocery store. Once we got there I carried him around the store in his backpack carrier. That is now one of his favorite places to be. He likes that he gets to look around and see what is going on everywhere we go. As an additional bonus, when Mommy carries him, he gets to pull on her hair (which I think he enjoys slightly more than she does).
Recently, he has started waking up again in the middle of the night. The doc said that this was normal for kids his age and it is best to let them try to "soothe themselves back to sleep". Unfortunately, when Corin is trying to "soothe himself", it is not very soothing to the rest of us. There is a lot more screaming involved than the name implies. We may have a few long nights ahead of us.

A trip to St. Louis

This past week a chance to go to St. Louis popped up and we jumped on it. So Corin got to cross another state off of his list (he already has nine under his onesie), and went to stay with Great Grandma. We got to see Uncle Dan, Aunts Sandy, Donna, Lisa and the girls. Corin had a great time, since he got lots of play time and laughed A LOT. He did pretty well in the car, although we have to stop for almost an hour for every two hours in the car. We had a lot of fun and a wonderful time spending time with everyone.

King for a day

Life continues to go well in Corin's castle. We have a good little routine most days. Kristi is at home with Corin during the day while I'm at work (she deserves some sort of award for that). When I get home we play for a little bit, then the grown-ups get to eat and then I feed him his baby food (which he is really enjoying now). Then we play some more and then I feed him his nightcap and he falls asleep against me on the couch. Then we move him to his crab and get ready to do it all over again.
The weekends are a little break from the routine. Saturday we went down to Bloomington and Kristi and Corin spent the day with Grandma while I did some work with my parents. Then Sunday he spent the day with Pop and Lola while Kristi and I went to the movies. Then we all came home and watch the Colts march to 5-0!

A trip to the zoo

Kristi met with a group of local new mommies and took Corin on a trip to the Indianapolis zoo this past week. Five women each with a baby under 9 months old. Just sitting down to eat lunch was a chore, since five babies had to eat and then five mommies had to take their turns. But Corin had a good time. Kristi borrowed (and we have since purchased) a little baby front carrier. Corin enjoyed being up front and being able to look around at everything that was going on.
This past weekend we went down to Bloomington. Corin spent an evening with Pop and Lola while Kristi and I went out for my birthday. Saturday we strapped on the baby carrier and walked around the farmers' market. It was great weather and Corin enjoyed being outside (as he always does).
He had a pop up doctor's visit the other day (he is doing fine now). He weighed in at 17 pounds, 6 ounces!
This past week Corin has started eating baby food vegetables. We have tried peas and squash so far. He enjoyed them both and has gotten very good a sucking the food right off of the spoon.
